Abel Gance’s Napoléon (1927) is coming to a cinema near you. I previewed the restoration earlier this month, and there will be more from Silent London on this in the coming weeks, but for now feast your eyes on the brand new trailer, and check out this list of the cinemas that have booked this mega-movie in so far.
- Napoléon is on BFI DVD and Blu-ray and BFI Player from 21 November. You can pre-order a disc here.
- And don’t forget, you can still catch Napoléon on a grand scale, at the Royal Festival Hall with the Philharmonia Orchestra on 6 November.
- You can read my review of the 2013 Napoléon show here.
- And watch this space for more on Napoléon, here on Silent London, from Kevin Brownlow and Carl Davis.
Hi, again, Pamela,
Every time you post something, there’s another recollection for me. This time it’s about Napoleon.
I had the great privilege of interviewing Carl Davis (again to be included in Great Britons, Volume 2). And I now count Kevin Brownlow a friend, as I’ve interviewed him many times (again for Volume 2) and especially I was honored to have him write the Afterword for Great Britons.
Really enjoy your posts.
Regards, Barbara
What’s changed between this new restoration and the one which played at the RFH three years ago? Is this really that different? It’s unclear from the various bits of publicity. But it is wonderful to see it finally coming to DVD and BD.
No new material, just a cleaned-up digital version of that restoration with a new recording of the orchestral score, so it can go to cinemas as a DCP and on to disc
Thanks Pamela
